Highland Sanctuary (Highlands #2) by Jennifer Hudson Taylor
Highland Sanctuary, by Jennifer Hudson Taylor, is a story about a girl, Serena, who has a secret. She and her mother live with a village of people known as the Village of Outcasts, a group of people with various disabilities. Gavin, the hero of the story, has come to rebuild the nearby castle and is draw to Serena. After he arrives there are numerous "incidents" that cause harm to the villagers.
I wanted to like this book, as I enjoyed the first book in this series, Highland Blessings. I was disappointed that there wasn't more Scottish heritage, other than the speech. The idea to write about people with disabilities is a novel idea, but I was seeking more Scottish culture. I was reminded of how long ago people would have seen Serena as a witch, rather than a person with a unique person. "God works through people...even when they aren't aware of it."
I would recommend this book to someone who enjoys historical fiction.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book from Abingdon Press and Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
